Y Tu Mama Tambien co-stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna staged a gala dinner in Mexico City on Saturday night (11 Aug 07) in an effort to raise funds and awareness about poverty and injustice in the country.
The two actors and friends teamed up with rocker Peter Gabriel's Witness human rights organisation and Mexico's Commission for the Defense and Promotion of Human Rights to stage the $300 (£150)-a-head event.
At a press conference before the gala, Bernal congratulated filmmakers for bringing light to terrible acts: "Documentaries show us the injustices in the country where we live, that this problem exists. We can't escape it."
Luna and Garcia Bernal have launched a new production company, Canana, and plan to make a series of documentaries aimed at raising awareness about failures of the Mexican judicial system
