Holmes Brothers set dates through fall and beyond

Blues trio The Holmes Brothers will bring their mix of gospel, R&B and traditional roots music to several North American cities over the next few months, kicking off with a show Friday (7/19) in Woodstock, NY.

After appearances ranging from the Aug. 7 American Roots Festival in Los Angeles, to a Sept. 25 show at Ringwood, NJ's public library, the group will head into Canada for a string of November dates.

The group--brothers Sherman (bass) and Wendell Holmes (guitar/keyboards) and drummer Popsy Dixon--has gained a sizeable fan base in recent years after working with artists such as Peter Gabriel and Joan Osborne.

The group has been together since 1979, and recorded four albums on the Rounder label before signing with Alligator records and releasing 2002's acclaimed "Speaking in Tongues," produced by Osborne, who also contributed backup vocals to the album.

Their most recent release was 2004's "Simple Truths," produced by Craig Street, notable for his work on Norah Jones' 2003 breakthrough release
"Come Away With Me."

In March, The Holmes Brothers received the W.C. Handy Award for Blues Band of the Year from the Memphis-based Blues Foundation.
